Obituary of Russell Martin
In Loving Memory of Russell Martin
1940 – 2025
Russell Martin passed away peacefully on June 3rd, 2025, at the age of 84, surrounded by his family. Leaving behind a lifetime of stories, laughter, and a family who adored him.
Russell was many things: a husband, a dad, a poppy, a brother, and a friend — but also a dancer, snack enthusiast, and ray of light that could put a smile on anyone's face. He is survived by his loving wife Kathleen, who shared in his every adventure; his children Darrell (Lisa) and Dana (Jody), who inherited both his wit and his stubborn streak; and his grandchildren Cordelia, Jared, and Mallory, who always knew Pop had the best snack stash and the warmest hugs.
He also leaves behind his brothers Ted (Barbara), Neville (Utah), Cluney (Dana), Alex (Shelley), sister Leonie, and sister-in-law Betty (Claude), and a wonderfully large crew of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends — many of whom were lucky enough to sit around his kitchen table and endeavor to participate in the conversation.
Russell had a knack for making people laugh, even when they didn’t feel like it. He loved a good joke, solving puzzles, and having a chat and a coffee at Tim Horton’s. He believed in community, kindness, and leaving the world just a little bit better than he found it. The family would like to thank the amazing Medical staff, Temples Funeral Services, and the Anglican Church for their kindness, care, and support.
In lieu of flowers, and in Russell’s generous spirit, donations can be made to the Labrador West Food Bank — because he never liked to see anyone go hungry, especially not on his watch.
Russell’s life was full of love, laughter, and more than a few tall tales. His memory will live on in every chuckle at the dinner table, every misplaced puzzle piece, every jig and every act of kindness done in his name.
Visitation will be held Monday, June 9th 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at Our Lady of The Assumption in Wabush. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 10th at 2:00 pm. The funeral service will be live streamed through Temples Funeral Home for anyone unable to attend.
