Obituary of Franz Skrinjar
It is with heavy hearts that the family and friends of the late Franz Skrinjar announce his passing at the age of 90 years Frank was born in Litmerk, Slovenia on September 8th, 1934.
He left his home in Slovenia in the 1950's and made his way to Australia where he stayed and worked for 11 years. His next move would be to Canada where he lived in Windsor, Ontario. After seeing an advertisement in The Toronto Sun for work at The Iron Ore Company of Canada, he started his journey to Labrador City in August of 1967.
Frank started his working career with the Iron Ore Company of Canada on August 24th, 1967. He was 33 years old. He would be placed in the Pellet Plant, and this is where he would stay and work for almost 58 years.
Over the course of 58 years, he would meet a lot of people along the way; but none were as special as Ken and Sandra Butt. This friendship would continue over the course of 37 years. During those years Ken and Sandra started a family of their own having three children Kenzie, Kenny and Shalene. These children were extra special to Frank. He treated them as if they were his very own grandchildren. Always spoiling them with gifts and love. He showed the same love to the Butt's cat and dog (Luna and Charlie) They were spoiled as well. It was a regular occurrence to see Frank at the mall buying cat food and dog treats. The Butt Family was most definitely his true Labrador family.
Another friendship that was extra special to Frank was his friendship with Sean Lynch. This started nearly 18 years ago when Sean started in the Pellet Plant, where Frank took Sean under his wing right from the start. But as years went by roles reversed. Sean began to take Frank under his wing and there was nothing Sean didn't do for him whether it be at work or at home... even as far as taking Frank to Goose Bay with both him and Lisa last summer during the evacuation. Anyone who knows both Frank and Sean know that they had a deep connection.
Although Frank lived and worked in Labrador for nearly 58 years. He would travel to Thailand for 5 and 6 weeks every December where he would spend his time with his Thailand family. This included his partner of 14 years., Papussorn Takhong (Dio) and her extended family. Both Frank and Papussorn planned to spend his retirement years in the home they had purchased in Nakhon Sawan, Thailand.
Anyone wishing to send expressions of sympathy can donate to Faiths Haven in Franks name. He absolutely adored all animals. There will be a celebration of life held for Frank at 6:00pm on Friday, July 4th, 2025 at the Royal Canadian Legion in Labrador City. Every is welcome to come give Frank the final farewell that he so highly deserves. A special thanks to all of the doctors, nurses and staff at the Labrador West Health Center. Also, a special thank-you to Lisa, Katie, Gloria, and Jennifer for being by his side during his final days.
