Obituary of Harold Joseph Delurey

December 17th 1941 - August 20th 2025 It is with great sadness that the family of the late Harold Joseph Delurey announce his very peacefully passing on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at the Labrador West Health Centre, at the age of 83 years. Left with fond and loving memories are wife Anita Mary Delurey(Critch), three sons, Shawn (Dee), Darcy, and Leroy (Ashley).Grandchildren Jack, Cole and Kate Delurey, and brother Joseph (Joe)Delurey. Harold was predeceased by parents Captain Joseph Delurey(Riverhead) and Laura Reddy of Red Island, Brothers James and David, Sisters Irene(Renie) Corcoran, Anna Marie Keating, Molly Abbott and Anita Corcoran. As well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Harold was born December 17, 1941 in Riverhead, St. Mary’s Bay. Harold met the love of his life Anita Critch while working at the General Hospital in St. John’s, NL in 1965. Harold moved to Labrador City in 1967 where he started his job with the Iron Ore Company of Labrador. Harold and Anita were married in February of 1968, made their home in Labrador City, where they raised their family of three sons. Harold retired in 2003 but stayed in Labrador City where he was a big part of his families’ life especially his grandchildren whom he loved dearly. Harold was a very loving, kindhearted, compassionate man, soft-spoken, funny who loved nothing better than getting together with his family (or anyone for that matter) to have a game of cards. If you went to visit Harold 8:00 in the morning or 8:00 in the night, the next thing you knew he was taking out the cards to see if anyone was interesting in having a game of cards. His face light up when his grandchildren came to visit, he was so very proud of them. By Harold’s request cremation has taken. Friends and family may visit from 6:00-8:00pm on Monday, August 25th, 2025, at Temple’s Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 26, 2025 at 2:00pm, At the Basilica of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Labrador City, NL. As expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Labrador West Health Centre. Very special thanks to Administration and Nursing staff of the Labrador West Health Centre, whose care went above and beyond while Father/Poppy was a patient in the hospital. He was cared for, sang to, said love you too. Special thank you to all family and friends for all the messages, calls, visits, card, and meals, your kind words and prayers have meant a lot to us all. Do not be sad for us, he lived a wonderful life up until he got sick in 2021 where he had to use oxygen 24 hours a day, and was house bound. But his little granddaughter, whom he lovingly called Katie said to her own father when she heard that Poppy had gone to heaven “Poppy is feeling much better now and don’t need those machines anymore”. Rest in Peace Father/Poppy.
