Obituary of Clarence Higgins

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, husband, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, and grandfather, Clarence Higgins, at the age of 81. Clarence passed peacefully away with family by his side at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Born in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, Clarence grew up with a spirit of adventure and determination. At just sixteen, he left home and made his way to Northern Canada, where his early years were filled with stories, challenges, and experiences that shaped the man he would become. At twenty-seven, with a young family to provide for, Clarence began a new chapter when he found employment with the IOC (then IOCC) in Labrador City. Over the next 27 years, he worked in multiple areas, gaining the respect of coworkers and building friendships that lasted a lifetime. Clarence will be forever missed by his loving wife Barbara, his two sons Clancy (Harriett) and Sam (Rhonda), and his treasured grandchildren Cody, Grace, Tyra, Mia, Lilly, Kyle (Krista), and Chelsea. He also leaves behind his cherished great-grandchildren Mateo, Sammi Rose, Maliyah, and Dawson, who brought endless joy to his later years. Clarence is survived by his brothers John, Bruce, and Ray, and sisters Sandra and Joan; sisters-in-law Minnie Higgins, Marie Higgins, Marg Higgins, Mary Misson (Labrador City), and Carolyn Pennell; brothers-in-law Freeman Pennell and Zeno Misson; along with all of his nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. Special mention is extended to Robert (Bob) Chestnut, Bill Hancock, and Sheryl Williston, Oscar Hickey as well as many friends in New Brunswick who held a meaningful place in his life. Clarence is predeceased by his parents Selby and Bertha, his brothers Joey, Chest, and Derrick, and his sister Gloria. As per his wishes, there will be no funeral or service. Donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice in his memory. The Higgins family would also like to extend our deepest gratitude to all who cared for Clarence during his time at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital. To Dr. Green and his staff ( family doctor), to every specialist involved in his care, and to all the dedicated doctors—but especially the nurses—we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Your kindness, compassion, and empathy brought comfort to Clarence and to all of us during an incredibly difficult time. Your patience, gentle words, and unwavering dedication will never be forgotten. We are truly grateful for the care you provided and the dignity you helped preserve in his final days. With love and gratitude, The Higgins Family
