Obituary of Jenny Francine Blundell
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Jenny Blundell, age 78, on December 7, 2025, at the Long-Term Care centre in Labrador City. Jenny left this world surrounded by love, leaving a legacy of warmth, kindness, and treasured memories that will be held dear by all who knew her.
Jenny was born in Petley, NL on April 3, 1947, to her devoted parents, Fred and Ruple Laite. She spent her formative years on Random Island where she met the love of her life, Eric. On December 16, 1965, Jenny married Eric in a little schoolhouse in Petley. In 1967, Eric started his career with IOC and Jenny soon followed with her eldest daughter who was 4 months old. Not only was this her first time leaving Newfoundland it was also her first time on a plane. Becoming a mode of transportation, she did not like! Both of their extended families soon followed them to Labrador City, including her parents, sister and brother in laws. Jenny’s love for family was extended to her friends who came for work in Labrador, their door was always open.
She volunteered with the Girl Guides, was a Sunday School Teacher and member of the Labrador West Ladies Hospital Auxiliary. After her children were raised she worked at Northern News and Buck or Two. She was an avid curling fan, especially devoted to Brad Gushue and Mark Nichols and the excitement of the roaring rings. She loved a good game of cards and bingo, especially with her friends at the Labrador Seniors Center. Jenny cherished getting together with family most of all, there was always a birthday celebration, a home cooked meal, coffee and cookies or a phone call. It was all about connecting.
Jenny’s heart belonged to her family. Left to mourn are her children Gwen Byrne (John), Annette Tobin (Stefan), and Craig Blundell (Lori). Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren: Erika, Carter, Leah, Eric, Ian and her great grandson, Ayden. Her sister, Donna White (Bob), brother in-law Aubrey (Rosemary, (Rose d.2014), sister in-law Mary (Ted d.2023), sister in-law Marie (Ron) and a large circle of extended family and friends, all of whom will forever hold her memory close.
Jenny was pre-deceased by her loving Husband Eric (d.2000) and her father Fred (d.2003) and mother Ruple Laite (d.2015). Her brother in-law Ted and sister in-law Rose.
Jenny’s legacy is one of unconditional love, kindness, and a steadfast commitment to her family. She also exhibited great strength and taught us how to be brave while struggling with Parkinsons.
We would also like to say thank you for the amazing care that mom received; it wasn’t only the physical care but it was also the emotional and social support that she needed. It was very comforting knowing that staff members dropped in and spoke to her on a daily basis. For many of you it was more than just a job. Many of her friends dropped in with baked goods regularly and had a chat, it was something she dearly loved.
As we say goodbye to Jenny, we invite family and friends to remember her with gratitude and celebrate a life well lived. Friends and family may visit Temple’s Funeral Home from 5-7 pm on Wednesday December 17 th , 2025. Burial will be announced at a later. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Parkinson’s Society of NL or the Long-Term Care Facility in Labrador City where Jenny spent the last 4 years.
