Obituary of Joan Mary Stoodley
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Joan Mary Stoodley announce her passing on December 24, 2025 surrounded by her family at the Labrador West Health Centre at the age of 79. Arriving in Wabush in 1964 with her husband David, Joan built a big, beautiful life rooted in love and family. A devoted mother of five, Joan was happiest when surrounded by those she loved. Through 35 years of selling Avon, her church involvement, and the Birthday Girls, she formed a large and cherished circle of friends.
Joan was selfless, warm, and kind, offering compassion wherever she went. Her strength and determined spirit allowed her to weather any storm. She loved everyone and was never shy about showing it, greeting friends and strangers alike with a hug and a kiss—though perhaps her greatest loves of all were her doggies. Joan set a powerful example of a life well lived. She is now reunited with her beloved husband, David, just in time for Christmas.
Joan leaves to mourn her five children Darlene Stoodley, Tracy Tulk (Rod), Kelly Chatman (Shawn), Darren Stoodley (Cheyenne), Crissy Stoodley (Matt) her grandchildren, Justin, Megan (Blake), Brody (Emma), Avery, Abbey, Lukas and great-grandson Jacob and a large circle of nieces, nephews, special relatives, and dear friends.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Labrador West Health Centre for their compassionate care during Joan’s final days. To Dr. Costello,Dr. Poonam, Dr. Hans and the oncology team- Dr. Ahmad, Linda, Ronnie & Selina. Thank you for the years of care & compassion. To Pastor Shannon Meade and her church family thank you for your prayers and visits during this time. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to a local animal shelter of your choice. The family would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have reached out, your messages have brought light in dimmer moments.
Funeral Service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday December 27, 2025 at the Glad Tidings Pentecostal Church with Pastor Meade officiating. Service will be live streamed from Temple's Funeral Home facebook page for family and friends who are away.
Joan will forever be remembered for her big smile and her familiar giggle.
