Obituary of Harry Maxwell Legge
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Harry Maxwell Legge announce his passing on December 10, 2024, at the LWHC in Labrador City, surrounded by his family.
Dad was born Oct 3, 1942, in Farmer’s Arm, Twillingate, the only child of Martin and Annie Legge. Even though he was the son of a fisherman, his career path led him to be a teacher in 3 NL communities and then as a fish plant worker in Twillingate. In 1962 he received his letter of employment from the Iron Ore Company of Canada and quickly headed to Labrador City.
He met Mom in 1966 and were married Oct. 7, 1967. They had 3 children within the next 6 years. Dad loved his woodworking, his small backyard vegetable garden and going for walks. He was a faithful and active member of the local Salvation Army and supported their ministries and volunteered his time when needed. But his biggest love was his family.
In Oct. 1999, after 36 years, Dad “the hydraulic guy”, retired from IOC and remained in the community he came to know as ‘home’, though he spent summers in his hometown of Twillingate in Crow Head.
Left to mourn with the fondest of memories are his wife of 57 years, Mavis (nee Tilley); children Angela (Ernest Kelloway), Denise (John Morgan), Steven (Tara); grandchildren Ryan, Zachary and Drew; and great granddaughter Aurora. Also mourning Dad’s passing are his Aunt Maxine, Uncle Doyle (Joan), Aunt Adelaide, sister-in-law Joyce (Ron), sister-in-law Amy and cousin Hattie (Dave); as well as many other relatives and friends across the province and country. Dad was predeceased by his parents, Martin and Annie Legge and his father and mother-in-law, Wilbert and Dora Tilley.
