Obituary of Roland Reid

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Roland Reid announce his passing on September 28th, 2023, at the Gary J Armstrong Long Term Care Facility in Ottawa, Ontario, where he resided during his final years. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are his children Jacqueline (Fraser), and Roland (Michelle); sister Sylvia (Roger); brothers Harvy (Val), Cliff (Irene); as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other family, and friends. Rollie was predeceased by his wife Cora; and his parents Pearl & Lorne Reid. Rollie was a kind and gentle soul who truly loved Labrador and all it had to offer. He moved to Labrador City in 1966 where he raised his family, worked, and went on many adventures. He never missed an opportunity to go on a caribou hunt, a “little randy” out in boat, or evening out by the campfire. He loved to be surrounded by family, friends, and laughter. Any time his name is mentioned it is followed with a story and a laugh. The family would like to send a special thank you to the doctors and staff of the Russell Medows and Gary J Armstrong long-term care facilities, for the care and compassion they showed during his stay there. Rollie may be gone, but continues to give, as he had made the decision to be donated to the University so that others can learn from his passing. All friends are welcomed to join his family as they celeberate his life at the White Wolf Lodge in Labrador City, on Thursday, October 5th, 2023, from 4:00-9:00. As an expression of sympathy donations can be made to one of the local animal shelters (Faith Haven or Mission Kitty) in his memory, as Rollie always had a special place in his heart for his four-legged friends. May his spirit roam the land across Labrador, like a herd of caribou, grazing and indulging in its pure beauty.
