Obituary of Stephen Patrick Myers
Stephen Patrick Myers
May 26th 1953 - Dec. 22nd, 2024
It is with very broken hearts that we share with you, the passing of Stephen Patrick Myers, at the age of 71, at the Health Science Center in St. John’s, as he was surrounded by a small circle of family & friends & his wife Melinda by his side holding his hand.
Since 2008, Steve fought a very courageous & brave battle with Leukemia & his latest diagnosis of Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. Dec. 22nd, 2024, God saw fit to provide him peace & final rest from that battle. Throughout Steve’s illness, he never once allowed it to define him, he fought hard, never failing to stay positive & he never did lose that big smile. He was a beacon of hope & inspiration. Steve had a kind, caring & generous personality, that in a very special way, impacted the lives of all who encountered him. Known to be a quiet man, but also had a way of making us smile & laugh with his dry humour. He strongly believed in hard work & determination & greatly respected & admired his Warehouse work family at IOCC, where he was employed just shy of 30 years.
Steve was an outstanding, unconditional loving husband, father, uncle, brother, brother-in-law & friend. Him & Melinda married in 2004 & they shared an amazing love for each other that was easily seen. He never ever fell short of making his family & friends the most important to him.
Left to mourn, are the love of his life of 20 years, his wife Melinda, daughter Jillian, son-in-law Mike Rowcliffe & his two children Anne & Taylor, Son Kevin & a niece that was like his own, Valerie. His siblings, Anna Brophy (Tony Manning), Brian Myers (Jenny), Anita Robertson (Andrew), Patricia Myers (Nick Potter), Paula Laroque (Sylvain), brother-in-law Bob Jacobs & sister-in-law Lorna Myers & brother-in-law Nelson Wiseman (Rose). Also mourning Steve’s passing are many other family & friends, both near & far.
Steve was predeceased by his parents Patrick & Doris Myers, mother-in-law Shirley Wiseman, sister Mary Jacobs, brother & sister-law John & Joan Myers, brother Blair Myers & brother-in-law Ron Brophy.
We cannot say thank you enough to the amazing nurses & doctors at our Labrador West Health Centre. Special mention to our Oncology Unit Staff, Dr. Tom Costello, Linda, Selina & Ronnie, who provided the most compassionate care with each time Steve walked through their door. Everything you all did has never gone unnoticed & you will forever hold a special place in our lives. To Steve’s hematologist, Dr. Jacqueline Costello, at the Health Science in St. John’s, you have been an angel & we are truly grateful for the way you also so compassionately cared for Steve since he became your patient. You never once gave up on looking for the next treatment. You too will always own a piece of our hearts. Arriving at the Health Science on Dec. 4th, we met a team of nurses, doctors, other Oncology staff, both on 4 North A & in ICU. We will never be able to say they didn’t do everything they could & from the bottom of our hearts we give you the greatest thanks. To my Aunt Frances & my cousins Leah & Kimmy, Steve’s sister Anna & niece Rhonda, two of our amazing best friends, Corinna Burton & Norm Porter, you rarely left my side, providing comfort to me through the most difficult days. I don’t know what I would have done without each of you & will never be able to thank you enough. And last, but never least, our family & friends, who have been surrounding us with so much love & support, throughout the 16 years of Steve’s cancer journey to now. We see you & we appreciate you beyond measure. This journey has been more bearable because of you & we love you.
My darling, If love could have saved you, you would have lived forever.
We will see you again.
As per Steve’s wishes, cremation has taken place & we give thanks to Carnells Funeral Home in St. John’s for their compassion & professionalism. A service will take place at a later date in Labrador City.
